A Message from your Administrators
Dear Langstaff Families and Community Members:
We have made it to the last month of the school year – the month of June is just around the corner. The month of June is always welcomed with open arms and excitement, as we look ahead to the end of the school year, a wonderful graduating class, the summer moving months and moving on to whatever the next chapter is. It is so exciting that we are busy with Prom and Graduation for our Grade 12 students.
This past week was very busy – it was hard to keep track of everything that was going on at the school. Many of our sports teams have been attending games and tournaments. Our Flag Football team, the Ultimate Frisbee team, the Co-ed Volleyball team, the Badminton team, and the Mountain Biking team have all participated in a number of events over the past few weeks. We know that this will continue until the school year comes to an end. Huge thanks go out to all our coaches for the time and dedication that they give outside of school hours to our students.
Speaking of thanking our wonderful coaches... This week our Athletic Council held their Athletic Banquet. It was a wonderful event, held in our school's courtyard, that had our student athletes and teacher-coaches celebrate a successful year of extra-curricular sports and award honours and medals to many of those who attended. Go Bears!
We also saw a number of great field trips this week. Our debating team attended a competition at King City SS and many of our science students went to the zoo to study and learn about animals and their environments. Next week, our community class students will be attending the Best Buddies Prom at the Grand Cinnamon Banquet Hall. The students and staff are very excited for this annual event and can't wait to celebrate another successful school year.
Last week, we hosted the YRDSB "Step Out" Dance Competition. We had close to 300 dancers and families at the school watching wonderful and artistic dancing by both elementary and secondary school students. It was an amazing experience to have this event at our school.
Finally, I wanted to share that all our Advanced Placement students have finished writing their AP exams. The students will not get their results until July, but we wish them the best of luck.
June is marked by many school activities taking place at the school. The warmer weather and sunshine sure make our LSS students want to get out and participate in all that the school has to offer.
Our grade 12 students are looking forward to the Grad Assembly on June 3. At this assembly, the graduating students will learn all about Grad and will receive their Caps & Gowns and tickets to this highly anticipated event. Of course, Prom, which is taking place on June 11, is uppermost on most Grade 12 minds, and the excitement is building.
We are gearing up for a very busy and exciting last month of school. The exam schedule will be shared with students very soon!
Sincerely,
Ms. S. Epstein
Principal

Students who sign up will have the opportunity to participate in exciting activities throughout the day, and walk the track in support of the Canadian Cancer Society.
What is Relay for Life?
Relay for Life is a student-organized fundraising event that raises money to support services and groundbreaking research for the Canadian Cancer Society. This meaningful and moving event allows students to build school spirit while giving back to the community and honouring those affected by cancer.
Throughout the event, we will celebrate cancer survivors and honour those we have lost to this disease. It is truly a powerful experience that brings our school community together for an important cause.
Registration & Participation
We encourage all students to form a Relay for Life team with their friends!
All participants must:
- Pay the $25 participation fee through School Cash Online
- Register on the LSS Relay for Life page at relayforlife.ca/langstaff
- Complete registration by April 30th
The participation fee includes registration, a participant t-shirt, and a luminary bag.
Fundraising Expectations
We are asking all student participants to raise a minimum of $60 per person.
Most fundraising will be completed online by reaching out to family and friends through the Relay for Life platform. In addition, each participant will receive a donation envelope for any cash contributions they may collect.
All donation envelopes will be collected just prior to the event.
Our Progress So Far
Our Langstaff Bears have already raised over $6,400 for the Canadian Cancer Society. We are incredibly grateful to all of our Langstaff families and community members who are helping make this possible.
Sponsor Recognition
We would also like to recognize and thank our first official sponsor: Baked at Mina's,@baked.at.minas,a business owned by one of our very own Langstaff Bears!
