Bi Weekly Bulletin : June 19 to June 26, 2026

A Message from your Administrators

Dear Langstaff Families and Community Members:

Wow! We are at the end of the 2025-2026 school year. It seems like it was just yesterday that I was writing the first message of the school year. We are getting ready for the last few events that take place to end a school year.

Our students are busy writing their exams and the last exams will take place on Monday, June 22. We know the students have studied hard for these exams and look forward to seeing their final marks. All students can come into school on Wednesday, June 24 from 8:25 am to 11:10 am (using our shortened alternate schedule that has been shared with students) to visit each class and see their final grades and look at their final exams.

On Wednesday, June 24, our graduating students will be crossing the stage in their caps and gowns, to receive their diplomas. We will also be acknowledging Ontario Scholars, recognizing Award winners and hearing a wonderful speech by our Valedictorian. This is truly a highlight of the school year.

As we head into the summer, we would like to thank all of you for your help and support with our students this year. We strongly believe that when parents are involved in their children's education students and schools benefit in a positive way. We look forward to working with you again in September. We are so proud of both our staff and students for all that they have accomplished this year. It has been quite a journey since September...

We have:

  • played volleyball, ultimate frisbee, basketball, soccer, golf, badminton, and ran track & field
  • performed, sculpted, acted, sketched, photo-shopped, and painted
  • Learned about Remembrance Day and the Holocaust
  • We wore Orange to remember Residential Schools, Pink for diversity and anti-bullying, and we wore Purple for Epilepsy just to name a few
  • We celebrated our students' academic achievement at two Awards Assemblies
  • Participated in math contest and science olympics
  • We dressed up for Spirit Days and raised money for good causes
  • Danced and celebrated at both the Boo Bash and Prom
  • Studied hard, written EQAO, completed summative assessments, culminating activities, and accumulated thousands of credits!

It has truly been an outstanding year! Congratulations to all of our graduates, we wish them all the best on their future endeavors.

Some important reminders:

  • Report cards for students in grades 9 - 11 will be sent directly to students' GAPPS accounts and will be available on the Family Portal
  • Grade 12 students can pick up their report cards, diplomas, and transcripts during the weeks of July 6 to July 9 and July 13 to July 16 (please note there will be an alternate entrance for the school during the summer as we are having construction on our roof)
  • Information regarding the next school year will be mailed to all students and families in July
  • Please pay the Student Activity Fee (necessary for participating in all Clubs and Teams, and discounts on School Events) as soon as possible over the summer prior to the start of the next school year

As we come to the end of another school year, I would like to take a moment to thank our students, families, staff, and community for your support, partnership, and commitment to making our school such a special place.

This year is particularly meaningful for me, as it marks not only the end of the school year, but also the conclusion of my 35-year career with the York Region District School Board. It has been an incredible privilege to serve as an educator and school leader, and I am especially grateful to have spent the final chapter of my career in a school community that I have come to love so deeply.

Thank you for the trust you have placed in me, for your kindness, and for the many memories we have created together. I will leave with a heart full of gratitude and tremendous pride in all that our students have accomplished.

As I begin my retirement, I do so knowing that the future is bright because of the remarkable young people, families, and educators who make up this community.

Wishing you and your families a safe, relaxing, and joyful summer.,

With heartfelt appreciation

Wishing everyone a safe and restful summer break!

Ms. S. Epstein

Principal

Relay for Life Wrap Up!!

Dear Langstaff Families and Community Members,

Now that Langstaff's Relay For Life 2026 has come to an end, we would like to take a moment to sincerely thank everyone who helped make this event such a success.

Thanks to the incredible support and efforts of our students, staff, families, sponsors, and wider community, we are proud to share that together we raised $32,288.79 for the Canadian Cancer Society — surpassing our goal of $26,000 by over $6,000. This achievement would not have been possible without the generosity, dedication, and spirit of our Langstaff community.

We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the cancer survivors who joined us at this year's Relay For Life. Your strength, resilience, and courage are at the heart of this event, and it was truly meaningful to have you with us.

A special thank you goes to Mina Greenstein for sharing her story with our community. Her strength and optimism left a lasting impact on our event and reminded us of the importance of why we come together for Relay.

We are also deeply grateful to our generous sponsors for their support:

  • Baked At Mina's
  • KS Cutz (Halit)
  • Angus Glen Gold Club
  • Best Buy
  • Tim Hortons
  • Costco
  • Richvale Kumon
  • Barrie Persian Association
  • Chef Hanji
  • Mortgage Alliance Sorento

We would also like to thank all the teachers, caretakers, and administrators who volunteered their time and energy to help make this event possible.

A special thank you goes to Ms. Burley and Ms. Pacheco for their guidance, encouragement, and unwavering dedication throughout the planning and execution of Relay. Their support and hear work were essential to the success of this year's Relay for Life.

Finally, we are incredibly proud of our Relay For Life Committee. Months of planning, fundraising, promoting, and organizing led to an unforgettable event and an impact that will extend far beyond a single day.

While raising such an incredible amount of money is an amazing accomplishment, what matters most is seeing our school come together in support of such an important cause. Thank you to everyone who participated, donated, volunteered, and cheered us on along the way. The spirit of our Bears truly shone through at this year's Relay For Life.

Grad Assembly

The Library was thrilled to host the Class of 2026 Grad Assembly! Our soon-to-be grads picked up their ceremony packages, enjoyed a special treat — our iconic custom SSS cookie — and filled the space with nothing but good vibes. We're so excited for this amazing group as they get ready for their big day!

Spanish Class

Sra. McWhinnie's Spanish class and Mme Burley's Grade 9 French class teamed up for some Cricut magic, crafting the cutest Father's Day cards!

Casino Day in Gr. 12 Data Management

Casino Day was held on Monday, June, 8, in the Grade 12 Data Management class. This is an opportunity for students to apply what they have learned in the probability units of the course and design a game of chance. It was lots of fun, and prizes were awarded based on the fun factor, the math involved, and, of course, the winnings.

Please refer to photos sent in the bi-weekly bulletin to families.

Book Drive

Langstaff Humanitarian Outreach is proud to share the success of our recent book drive, where we collected over 1100 books thanks to the generosity of our school community. All donations were given to Second Life Books, an organization that redistributes books back into the community to promote literacy among both children and adults. Through partnerships with groups such as The Children's Book Bank, these books will help provide greater access to reading resources for those who need them most. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed and helped make this initiative such a success! Congrats to the winning classes: Ms. Outten's in 1st place, Mme. Burley's in 2nd place, and Ms. Derohanesian's in 3rd place, who won a pizza lunch.
